Boho Jewelry for Every Curve: Top 6 Styles for Plus-Size Women

I’m not going to tell you a bunch of silly rules about what boho accessories are best for your body type. Instead, I will share the types of jewelry that work best for me. I hope my ideas will help you and other plus-size women discover the look you want to achieve.

These tips are the result of 40 years of experimentation. Even when I weighed 120 pounds, I had large bones—a large neck, fat wrists, and more—so I’ve had to come up with fashionable workarounds for a long time.

1. Plus Size Boho Earrings

Big, funky jewelry is a huge part of the boho look. You can transform any plain, boring outfit into a boho masterpiece by adding extraordinary jewelry. Earrings are easy to incorporate because they don’t have to wrap around your wrist or ankle. However, small, ditsy earrings won’t stand out on a larger frame. To make your earrings look like part of your ensemble, opt for large sizes.

The right size jewelry, such as big earrings or a huge pendant, will create a focal point that draws attention away from wide hips or a round tummy. If you choose multiple focal points (like a bracelet, pendant, and earrings), it will make people’s eyes move around without fixating on one area. Just be careful not to overdo it unless you have an established boho look.

Tip: Start with affordable earrings so you can experiment with different shapes and sizes without breaking the bank.

2. Boho Hippie Chokers for Fat Necks

Finding chokers or bib necklaces that fit a larger neck can be challenging. One style that works well for wide necks is the station necklace. This style features beads or pearls separated by a half-inch of chain between each “station.” Station necklaces add color and shine without making your neck look chopped off.

When shopping online for necklaces:

  • Measure Your Neck: Use a measuring tape to ensure the choker fits.
  • Check for Adjustability: Look for adjustable chokers to ensure a proper fit.
  • Explore Men’s Jewelry: Men’s festival jewelry often offers adjustable options and stylish designs that can complement your boho outfit.

3. Long Boho Necklaces for Women

Long pendant-style necklaces are my preference for boho wear. They elongate the neck and add a graceful touch to any outfit. Currently, I’m into tassel necklaces, carved pendants (bone, inexpensive stone, or faux stone), and anything Native American or Middle Eastern.

Mix Metals: Feel free to combine silver with gold or bronze for a versatile look.

If you want your necklaces to make a statement:

  • Go Big: Opt for large necklaces instead of layering multiple tiny ones.
  • Measure for Length: Ensure the necklace length complements your body by measuring it on yourself rather than relying on promotional photos.

4. Plus Size Boho Bracelets

Looking for hippie, trippy festival-style bracelets that fit large wrists? You’re in luck. There are plenty of groovy women’s styles, as well as unisex men’s boho bracelets that work beautifully.

Options to Consider:

  • Men’s Bracelets: Explore men’s styles with pyramid studs, regular studs, chains, or colorful designs.
  • Oversized Watches: An oversized men’s watch can add a trendy boho flair to your outfit.

5. Plus Size Women’s Rings

Finding plus-size rings can be easy on websites that cater to larger women. For more unique options:

  • Hippie Sites and Festival Wear: These often have distinctive styles that stand out.
  • Menswear Jewelry: Many men’s rings are essentially unisex and can be a great fit for larger hands.

Safety Tip: Avoid squeezing small rings that don’t fit. If a ring is stuck, try spraying Windex on your finger to help it slip off before considering a trip to the ER.

6. Hippie Festival Headpieces

Adding headwear to your boho outfit can enhance your look, whether you’re attending a concert or just heading to the grocery store. The key is to choose a headpiece that is proportionate to your jewelry and body size.

Balance is Crucial:

  • Minimalist Approach: One headpiece and a tiny ring might be all you need.
  • Bold Approach: Alternatively, you might prefer several large pieces of bohemian jewelry. It depends on your hair, body shape, outfit silhouette, and how everything blends together.

Note: Avoid wearing all six types of boho jewelry in one outfit to prevent an overwhelming look.

Takeaways

  • Embrace Large Jewelry: Opt for big earrings, pendants, and rings to create focal points that complement your frame.
  • Choose the Right Styles: Station necklaces and long pendant necklaces are great for balancing and elongating your look.
  • Mix and Match Metals: Combining different metals can add versatility and depth to your boho accessories.
  • Explore Unisex Options: Men’s jewelry often provides stylish and adjustable options suitable for plus-size women.
  • Prioritize Fit and Comfort: Ensure all accessories fit well and are comfortable to wear, especially when shopping online.
  • Balance Your Look: Avoid over-accessorizing by finding the right balance between headpieces and other jewelry.

By following these tips, plus-size women can confidently enhance their boho style with accessories that highlight their best features and express their unique personalities.
