Turns out you guys want me to drop astrophotography knowledge instead of memes and jokes so here is a super sexy video about telescope back focal distance and image trains and go in a bit deeper about why your backyard astrophotography might suck, somewhat. Pretty exciting stuff. Don't peak too early. Thanks to the sponsor BINTEL! Getting the proper back-focus for your imaging camera is a vital step in getting the best data possible out of your telescope imaging/research rig. This is a quick tutorial on how to achieve back focus using a deep-sky object CCD or CMOS camera. The Celestron f/6.3 focal reducer/corrector requires a backfocus distance of 105mm from the end of the reducer to the imaging sensor on your camera. The example camera in this video is a ZWO ASI 294MC Pro, but this will apply to all deep sky cameras as long as you get your focal distance to 105mm. The easiest way to do this is to get to 55mm of back-focus on your camera, and then add a 50mm SCT…

In this week's video I explain the concept of backfocus. Very simply, we need to put the camera's sensor in a very specific location. If the camera sensor is too close/far from the telescope or lens, you will not be able to focus. Thankfully, it's fairly easy to get this right!
